Do diffusers work on african american hair?

i have relaxed hair and its pretty straight. i really like how scrunched hair looks but my hair doesn't really scrunch. a lot of people said that i should try a diffuser but i want to know if it would work before i buy one. so my question is: Do diffusers work on black relaxed hair? any answers would be helpful. thank you.
