Java moss wall in freshwater aquarium.?

Ok I have a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium, and I was wanting to make the move to saltwater but first I want to make sure I can care for something other than fish. So I have done some research but I just need a real person to tell me: can I add a java moss wall to the back wall of my aquarium and just leave it be? Or do I need a CO2 diffuser and/or plant food? I know how to set it up I just need to know how to keep it from crashing the levels of the tank and how to make sure it thrives. I figure if I can do that sucessfully then setting up a saltwater aquarium should be within the scope of my skills as a hobbyist. Plus I have always liked the look of a mossy aquarium.
